Question by : How tough are the OLPC XO laptops?
My 7 month old son is obsessed with mine and my husbands laptops. A friend of ours got ahold of one of the XO laptops free at a conference and we heard that they were extremely tough. Said friend gave it to us but I’m still rather worried that the baby is going to break it. Opinions?

Best answer:

Answer by wayan.vota
Your 7 month old son is too young for the laptop now. He’ll just pull off the keys or the keyboard, like my oldest did when she was a year old. But once they’re old enough to know what it is, they’ll do fine. Its pretty rugged and you can repair it easy. Here I did it a little tipsy: http://www.olpcnews.com/hardware/keyboard/olpc_help_xo_laptop_keyboard_repair.html

Question by Nicole: Is it okay to leave a laptop cooling pad running all the time?
I just bought it, and my laptop is new, but I only got it to be safe because my other laptop overheated and died. I would like to leave the cooling pad on the whole time the laptop is running which is usually 5 or more hours a day without a break. Would it be okay to leave the cooling pad on?

Best answer:

Answer by Chris aka Master860
Yes Nicole why not? The only concern you should have is dust build up other then that it should be fine. It should be fine if kept on all day and all week (Not recommended for the life of your laptop nor your cooling pad) only damage you will be doing is shorting the life of the product. You can always check with your cooling pad manufacture on what is the recommended hours of use but it will be ok. Just keep it clean and nice and it will last long.

Question by Vanessa: Can I still change my mind about a paid, final sale laptop if the store still has it?
I bought a refurbished laptop at the Sony Outlet Store yesterday. It was the last unit and it was the display model. Apparently display items are final sale. I paid for it and I was told I need to come back later so they can reset the whole thing. I changed my mind overnight and now I’m wondering if I should be able to still get a refund if I never took the laptop home with me.

Best answer:

Answer by Laptop Repair
You can call them or go there… and you can ask them really nicely.

However, you need to be prepared for them to say NO. You already know the reason why they could say No and feel fine about it. “Display Items are Final Sale”. You said it yourself. It doesn’t matter if they still have it. You paid them, you have the receipt. You bought it. That means they sold it to you. So, technically, they have every right to say No… you are stuck with it, since you bought it.

It doesn’t matter if they still have it. If you brought a Sony laptop in for repairs that you had for 6 months, would you be able to turn around and say “Hey, since you now have the laptop, I want you to give me a refund on it…. you know, since you have it and all.”? No, you would not.

This doesn’t mean they WILL… this just means they can, and they would be justified. You knew it was a final sale when you bought it… and now you are hoping they didn’t really mean it was a final sale.

Caveat Emptor. Buyer Beware.

Best answer:

Answer by Andres R
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_energy_topics
Should be able to find some answers here.
But you should be able to plan based on the rated standards on the devices. Remember your laster printer doesn’t use too much power on standby, so that should not be the main factor. If you want a Desktop protected by the UPS, then don’t use the UPS to feed the laptop. Just plug the laptop straight to the wall. If power fails, the laptop will just use the battery. Really just buy a brand name device like APC, and you should be a happy camper.

Question by Mokaddasa: What is the best way to get a discount on a Mac laptop that is still under warranty?
I’m ready to have a good, reliable laptop with which I may travel easily. I go to Umass Boston and I know there is a student discount but I assume there has to be some other ways to get discounts on laptops through computer drives or other companies, websites, orgs, coupons, etc? I don’t mind something refurbished, display models or unpopular styles, colors, etc. I just need for it to be under the full warranty which allows you to bring the laptop to the Apple store for services and repairs.

Best answer:

Answer by Kahless
The Apple website sells refurbished models which are under full Apple warranty. Also try www.smalldog.com. Odds are though you won’t need the warranty, except maybe the phone support.
